Cashback apps are an easy way to put money in your pocket, because they work by giving you cash (or other rewards) for something you are already doing. If you have looked at other ways to make money like survey sites, or even a side hustle, then you definitely need to look at cashback apps! They are a really easy way to make free money without lots of work.
If you sometimes head out to the store and spend more than you meant to (helllooooooo Target), then cashback apps or coupon apps can at least make you feel a bit better about it!
The great thing about the digital revolution is that now you can do couponing or cashback through apps or through your computer. The internet has alot to answer for, but on the plus side it’s much easier to save money on shopping than it used to be.
When you type ‘best cashback apps’ into the search engines you can get pretty overwhelmed by all of the different cashback apps and reward apps out there. To save time, check out my list of the best cashback apps in 2021 below.
When looking at the best cashback apps for 2021, I’m giving an overview of each app, the cashback or rewards offered and the type of stores to use it in. I’ll also pick out some of the main things people have said in reviews about the apps (positive reviews and negative reviews) to help you decide which cashback app is best for you. Rakuten (formerly Ebates) is a cash back platform that you can use any of three ways; through a smartphone app, through the website, and through a Google Chrome browser extension.
You open the Rakuten app or go to the website, and then shop by clicking through to the store in the app or the Rakuten site.
If you get the Google Chrome toolbar extension, every time you visit a site where Rakuten operates, you are notified you can get cashback and so can click to use Rakuten. Once you have made a purchase through any the Rakuten app, the website or the Chrome extension, the cashback will usually show in your account within 2-3 days.
Which stores can you use Rakuten with?
Some of the top stores on Rakuten are Macy’s, Nike, Gap, Kate Spade, Expedia, Target, Ebay and Walmart.
How much cashback do you get with Rakuten?
Cashback varies, but can be up to 15% for some stores, although it is more common to be 2% – 6%.
How do you get paid with Rakuten?
Your Rakuten cashback will be paid on the 15th of February, May, August, and November as long as you have more than $5 in your account. The payment for each quarter is based on products mailed in the prior 3 months (so it can be a bit of a wait to actually get paid). You can get paid by PayPal or by a check in the mail.
Rakuten Pros
No scanning receipts! You can shop over 1000 stores directly from the Rakuten app or Rakuten website. And you get paid in cash, not rewards that you need to redeem. Swagbucks
How Swagbucks works
Swagbucks is an app and a desktop site that gives you a variety of ways to earn Swagbucks points (SB points) and cashback. You earn SB points for every dollar you spend plus have access to other deals and coupons for a variety of retailers.
In addition to earning SB points through shopping, you can earn with Swagbucks by answering surveys and polls and playing games and making in-game purchases.
You can also earn SB Points with Swagbucks by watching videos, sign up for new services and when you search the web using the Swagbucks Yahoo! powered search engine.
Which stores can you use Swagbucks with?
Swagbucks is partnered with over 1500 stores, including Walmart, Amazon, Expedia and Groupon.
How much cashback do you get with Swagbucks?
There are different Swagbucks points for different purchases and actions. Surveys can earn between 20 and 400 SB points, and the partner stores usually have cashback of between 1% and 10% (which is accumulated in SB points).
How do you get paid with Swagbucks?
You can cash the rewards through PayPal, get a gift card from different stores, or give your earnings away to a charitable cause. Each SB Point is equivalent to 1 cent, and you can cash out gift cards for retailers like Amazon with as little as 300 SB points ($3 gift card).

You will see a big list of surveys on the site, but you won’t qualify for all of them. After answering one or two questions you may be removed from the survey as you don’t meet the demographic they need, and in that case you can’t earn the points for that survey.
Honey
How Honey works
Honey is a web browser extension that can be added to Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Opera. It automatically scans the web for coupon codes so that when you are shopping online you will get the best coupon code for the product you are searching for.
It is very easy to add Honey, you click the button to download the browser extension, and then you are automatically taken to the sign up page, which took me all of 20 seconds to complete.
As well as finding coupons for your online shopping, each purchase you make where you used a coupon from Honey earns you Honey Gold. The Honey Gold points can be redeemed for gift cards, so you get even more free money by using the Honey browser extension.

Honey is constantly searching the internet for coupons, so it works with any store that they have found an online coupon for.

The coupon amounts in Honey will vary as the browser extension is searching for available coupons online. The cashback you receive from Honey Gold varies by retailer, but most stores have between 1%-5% cashback with Honey Gold.

Some users report that Honey did not find them any coupon codes even where the Honey website had recently shown coupons to be available.
Fetch Rewards
How Fetch Rewards works
Fetch Rewards is an app that is all about brands, rather than stores. It is more like Ibotta in that you upload a receipt and earn points when your receipt includes a product from a partner brand. But unlike Ibotta, it doesn’t matter where you purchased the item, provided you have purchased one of their partner brands.
Which stores can you use Fetch Rewards with?
Fetch has some big brands signed up, including Huggies, Simple Skincare, Corrs, Miller, Peroni, Ocean Spray, Pepsi, Ben & Jerry’s, Alka-Seltzer, Cottonelle, Kleenex, Doritos and Cracker Barrel.
There are also sponsored offers within the Fetch app, and if you shop for them through the Fetch app you can earn additional bonus points.
How much cashback do you get with Fetch Rewards?
You get 10 points with Fetch Rewards for every $1 spent on a partner brand.
How do you get paid with Fetch Rewards?
Once you reach 3000 points in your account (equivalent of $3), you can redeem your points for gift cards or donate the funds to charity. The gift vouchers are for popular stores like CVS and Target, so you are sure to use them up.
Fetch Rewards Pros
Most cashback apps have a high payment threshold, or long wait times for payment. Since you can cash out your Fetch rewards with only $3 in your account, it can be one of the fastest cashback apps to get money into your pocket. Fetch also has a referral program so you can earn 2000 points ($2) if you refer friends who go on to use the app.

Receipts must be uploaded within 14 days of purchase, so you need to keep on top of it to get your rewards.
Shopkick
How Shopkick works
Shopkick is a rewards app where the rewards are called kicks. You can earn kicks by shopping instore or online, and then redeeming your kicks for a digital gift card.
You can earn kicks in six different ways, and for some of them you don’t even need to make a purchase. There are three ways to earn kicks in the Shopkick app without even spending any cash. You can earn kicks by walking into stores, and also by scanning the barcodes of certain items, and by watching in-app videos.
The Shopkick app also allows you to earn kicks by submitting receipts, by adding a credit card in the app and purchasing items with the linked credit card, and by making online purchases.
Shopkick is also like Ibotta in that it has a list of special offers in the app, which change regularly. Log in to the Shopkick app to see the current offers, and keep checking back for new offering being added.
An additional bonus is that if you send your Shopkick sign-up link to a friend and they sign up and use the app within 7 days, you can also earn another 250 kicks (worth $1).
Which stores can you use Shopkick with?
The Shopkick app can be used with lots of brands and stores, including Target, CVS, Best Buy, TJ Maxx, Nestle, P&G and Kraft.
How much cashback do you get with Shopkick?
There is no set cashback amount with Shopkick as you get different rewards (kicks) for different things. You can get 25 kicks for walking into certain stores without purchasing anything, and 80 kicks for scanning some barcodes without purchasing.
How do you get paid with Shopkick?
Your kicks can be used to get gift cards for a variety of stores, including Amazon, BestBuy, Target, Ebay, Walmart, Starbucks and Nike. For most gift cards, 250 kicks gets you $1 on the gift card. You can earn money for free! The three options to earn kicks without spending a dime makes the Shopkick app a winner in my book.

Lots of people rave about Shopkick but a few users have reported their accounts being suspended for no reason, or kicks not being credited. Make sure you are cashing out your kicks regularly and then even if you do get suspended you will already have your rewards in hand.
Dosh
How Dosh works
If receipt scanning and searching for cashback offers sounds like too much effort, then Dosh might be the app for you. It is a much easier way to get free money than most of the other apps in this list.
To use Dosh, you download the Dosh app and then add a credit card. You can also link your Venmo or Jelli accounts if that is your preferred way to pay. When you use your linked card or payment method at the partner stores and locations, you are automatically credited cashback through the Dosh app.
Which stores can you use Dosh with?
Dosh has a fantastic selection of stores and brand partners, with Walmart, ASOS, Pizza Hut, Dunkin, Sephora and Instacart being just some of their big name stores. Dosh is also partnered with over 600,000 hotels around the world, so you get cashback when you book a stay with them. Dosh can also be used at over 10,000 local cafe and national food chains that will give you cashback when you are signed up to Dosh.
How much cashback do you get with Dosh?
Cashback varies depending on which offer you use and which partner you are spending with. Cashback can be up to 10% for some retailers, and with Dosh Travel cashback can be up to 40%.
How do you get paid with Dosh?
You can transfer funds out of your Dosh account to Paypal, Venmo or direct deposit to a bank account. You must have at least $25 available to withdraw in your account before you can make a withdrawal.
Dosh Pros
Dosh is easy to use, and you can earn cashback just by spending on a linked credit card, so it is less work than many cashback apps. Like many of the other apps, Dosh also has a refer-a-friend program so you can earn $5 for referring others to the Dosh app.

Not all credit cards can be linked to the app, and if you already have a card linked to a similar app, you won’t be able to connect that same card to Dosh.
Receipt Hog
How Receipt Hog works
Receipt Hog lets you turn all kinds of receipts into cash. For every qualifying receipt you take a picture of and submit in the Receipt Hog app, you’ll earn coins or spins. Whether you get coins or spins depending on the retailer on your receipts. All coin and spin receipts qualify you for a monthly sweepstake, and for some other receipts that do not qualify for coins and spins, you still get a sweepstake entry.
Earning coins is the way you get cash from the app. Spins give you in-app slot game entries, where you can win coins.
Regular users of the app also become eligible for bonuses which include surveys, barcode scans and more slot game entries, all of which earn you even more coins.
Receipt Hog works differently to the other apps because they are not partnered with any specific brands or stores. Instead they are using the data on your receipt to provide valuable market research data to companies such as retailers and consumer goods brands.
Which stores can you use Receipt Hog with?
Receipt Hog works with almost all stores and receipts. You can check which receipts qualify for coins, spins or sweepstakes here.
How much cashback do you get with Receipt Hog?
The amount of coins you earn on Receipt Hog depends on the total on your receipt; a receipt where the total is less than $10 earns 5 coins, between $10 and $50 is 10 coins, between $50 and $100 is 15 coins, and over $100 is 20 coins.
How do you get paid with Receipt Hog?
Once you have enough coins to cash out, you can get Amazon or Visa gift cards, or a cash payment via Paypal. The value of coins goes up the more you redeem so it can be worth building your coins up, for example you can get $5 for 1,000 coins, but $40 for 6,500 coins.

Receipt Hog works with pretty much all receipts, so you don’t have to spend time looking for particular offers, stores or products.
Receipt Hog Cons
Some users are finding that the Receipt Hog app isn’t recognizing their receipts. It also takes a long time to build up enough coins for a meaningful payout. As such, the Receipt Hog app is good if you have time and patience, but it’s not going to make you rich.
Checkout 51
How Checkout 51 works
With Checkout 51, offers are uploaded to the Checkout 51 app every week, and you then can buy the offers from any store and upload your receipts.
Each offer is only live for a week so you need to upload your receipt whilst the offer is still live. Some offers also have limited quantities, so be sure to check the offer list before purchasing to check that the offer is still available. You can shop online but need to upload a picture of the packing slip to qualify for the offer, and it still needs to be in the offer timeframe.
Which stores can you use Checkout 51 with?
Checkout 51 works with lots of brands, including Kelloggs, L’Oreal, Nestle, P&G, CVS Health and more. Checkout 51 has also partnered with over 5,000 gas stations so you can earn from pumping gas as well as your usual shopping.
How much cashback do you get with Checkout 51?
The cashback amount varies depending on the brand offer in any given week. Examples of a couple of the hundreds of offers available at the time of writing are $1 cashback on Dove spray deodorant for men, $2 cash back on CoffeeMate, and $1 cashback on Cracker Barrel cheese.

How Coupons.com works
Coupons.com acquired SavingStar and so now has some cashback features in addition to the coupons that you might already know if for. It has a desktop site as well as an app, and you can print coupons from your smartphone if you like to have the paper coupon.
To get your cashback, go to the coupons.com app and click Redeem, and then select the store where you made your purchase. Tap Submit Receipt and then follow the instructions to upload the receipt.
In addition to providing cashback on purchases you have already made, the coupons.com app also encourages you to add your store loyalty cards so you can access coupons and discounts automatically when you shop.
Which stores can you use Coupons.com with?
Coupons.com has partnered with lots of stores including Walmart, CostCo, Target, Walgreens, Amazon, Macy’s, Sears, Home Depot and more!
How much cashback do you get with Coupons.com?
The cashback on Coupons.com varies depending on the offers available at the time. Example offers are $3 cashback for purchasing 2 Colgate toothpastes, and $2.50 cashback for purchasing 2 Magnum ice cream tubs.
How do you get paid with Coupons.com?
Provided you have verified your phone number, you can get payments to your PayPal account, with no minimum balance to get the payment released.
Coupons.com Pros
A key benefit of Coupons.com compared to other cashback apps is that you have quick access to your cash, with no minimum cashout amounts and easy payments via PayPal.
Coupons.com Cons
A downside to Coupons.com is that processing receipts can be slow, and users have been complaining about a recent (December 2020) update to the app making it harder to use.
Paribus
How Paribus works
Paribus is a very clever app and is completely free. Paribus works differently to other cashback apps, as it automatically looks for price adjustments on products you have already purchased. Lots of stores offer price drop promises, and Paribus will scan your email receipts to find and refund you money when your online purchases drop in price.
It sounds too good to be true, but Paribus are owned by CapitalOne and have filed over $20 million in claims for its users.
You need to provide your email address that you use for online purchases. Paribus then identifies recent purchases based on shipping and order confirmation emails found in your mailbox. It will then monitor and compare price changes in real time, and when an eligible claim is found, Paribus contacts the retailer on your behalf. They then either file a refund claim for you or provide easy instructions for how you can file the claim.
When a retailer issues a price adjustment, you are credited funds directly onto the original form of payment or provided the equivalent amount in store credit.
Which stores can you use Paribus with?
Paribus doesn’t have brand or store partnerships, it will scan all of your online purchases and keep searching for price drops.
How much cashback do you get with Paribus?
Any money you get back by using Paribus will be dependent on the price drop that has occurred, and the price drop policy of the store that Paribus has contacted for you.
How do you get paid with Paribus?
Since Paribus is contacting the stores or suppliers that you bought the products from, you will receive money back to the same card you purchased the goods with (like any other store refund). Alternatively, some stores may give you store credit.
Paribus Pros
Once you have signed up, there is very little work to do as Paribus works automatically and contacts stores on your behalf. Paribus saves you all of the work of checking for price drops and contacting stores. If you are already signed up with Swagbucks, you can also earn 100 SB points by signing up with Paribus.

Paribus does need access to your email system to work, and it won’t work with all email providers.
ReceiptPal
How ReceiptPal works
ReceiptPal is similar to ReceiptHog because you can upload receipts from any retailer/store. This includes purchases from convenience stores, travel and entertainment, restaurants, grocery stores, clothing stores, sporting goods stores, electronics stores, gas stations, car dealerships and online retailers.
To be accepted, receipts must include the store name, purchase date, total amount spent and either phone number or zip code of the store (the entire receipt must be in the photo). The ReceiptPal app accepts electronic receipts as well as paper receipts.
ReceiptPal works on a point card system, each time you upload 4 receipts you complete a point card and earn 100 points.
Which stores can you use ReceiptPal with?
Unlike Ibotta, ReceiptPal is not brand or store specific. You can upload receipts from any stores.
How much cashback do you get with ReceiptPal?
There is not a cashback amount related to your spending, instead ReceiptPal works on a point card system. For each upload of 4 receipts you complete a point card and earn 100 points.
How do you get paid with ReceiptPal?
ReceiptPal has their cash rewards broken down by levels, which are defined by a certain amount of points. Currently, Level 1 rewards are a $5 Amazon e-gift card or a $5 Retail e-gift card, which you can select for a favorite retailer of your choice.
At the time of writing, Level 1 rewards offer a $5 gift card for 2,200 points, level 2 rewards offered a $10 gift card for 4,000 points, and Level 3 offered a $50 gift card for 17,250 points.
ReceiptPal Pros
ReceiptPal works with most retail receipts, so you do not need to worry about brands or stores, you can just start accumulating points from any of your shopping.
ReceiptPal Cons
The downside with ReceiptPal is that receipts need to be submitted quickly. TO be validated by ReceiptPal, receipts for purchases made between Sunday and Saturday of any week must be submitted by the Tuesday of the following week.
Drop
How Drop works
Drop is available both as an app and a Chrome browser extension. When you use Drop you earn points by shopping through the app and redeeming rewards with the partnered brands.
You can also link a credit or debit card and earn points with certain partner brands. You need to open the Drop app to select your deals, then shop with your linked card in-store or online and earn points for your purchase.
If you prefer to use the Drop Chrome browser extension, download it and then just click on the logo in your web browser. You’ll then see a list of brands to shop for, and by clicking “shop” next to the brand name you’ll be redirected to the online store. When you checkout, you’ll be shown a notification with the estimated amount of points you can earn with Drop from your cart total.
Be sure to check the offers carefully, as most of the offers on Drop have requirements that you need to meet to qualify for the offer. This could just be to shop with the linked card, but if you don’t meet all the requirements you won’t get the Drop points.
You can also earn points through Drop by completing survey within the app, or paying and completing games from the app.

Drop is partnered with many popular stroes including Walmart, Instacart, Ulta, QVC and Uber Eats

There is no set cashback amount with Drop as the points offers in the app vary, but every 1,000 points you earn is equivalent to $1.

Drop Points can be redeemed for a variety of rewards such as gift cards to Amazon, Starbucks, and many popular restaurants. For each 1,000 you can redeem $1 worth of gift cards.
Drop Pros
In addition to the variety of ways you can earn points in the Drop app, you can also earn for referring a friend. When you refer a friend, you get referral points after they’ve earned their first 1,000 points with Drop, and you will earn 5,000 points (equivalent to $5) for the first 10 friends you invite.

Payment methods such as PayPal, Venmo, Chime and the Cash app, are not compatible with Drop, and so purchases made using these services may not qualify for points
Ibotta
How Ibotta works
Ibotta is one of the most popular cashback apps, although others are now starting to catch up to it. Ibotta has both an app and a browser extension to help you find offers.
If you visit a retailer through the app to shop online, this will earn you cashback with Ibotta.
You can also earn cashback with Ibotta by buying giftcards through the app, which gives you instant cashback. You can earn cashback by searching in the Ibotta app for deals, then saving those deals and uploading your receipts once you have purchased the items. You can also link your store loyalty cards in Ibotta to earn cashback from the stores you visit regularly.
If you are shopping with the Ibotta browser extension, you just shop online as you usually would, and the Ibotta extension notifies you if deals are available.
Which stores can you use Ibotta with?
Ibotta is partnered with lots stores, including big name stores like Walmart, Walgreens, Overstock, Office Depot, American Eagle, Colombia Sportswear and Forever 21.
How much cashback do you get with Ibotta?
The amount of cashback you earn with Ibotta depends on the deals that are available, it is not a fixed cashback amount. According to Ibotta, the average user is able to make $30 a month so this is an app worth exploring.
How do you get paid with Ibotta?
You can redeem your earnings by purchasing gift cards through Ibotta, or you can withdraw your funds to PayPal or a bank account.

The Ibotta app has been evolving and there are now lots of ways to earn cashback, not just by uploading receipts.

Lots of Ibotta users report issues with receipts being recognized and offers being validated. If you are keen to try Ibotta, maybe start with a couple of small deals to see if it works for you, and if not, then try one of the other cashback apps on the list.
TopCashback
How TopCashback works
TopCashback has both a website and an app, and is a cashback site that works through online shopping, rather than needing to upload receipts like Ibotta.
To use TopCashback, log in to the app or website, and then search for the retailer you want. Click through the app or TopCashback website to your chosen retailer, and you will automatically earn cashback on your purchases.
Which stores can you use TopCashback with?
TopCashBack is partnered with over 4,400 retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, AliExpress, GAP, Lego, Sephora and Ebay.
How much cashback do you get with TopCashback?
Cashback amounts with TopCashback vary, but some of the offers for online purchases that were available at the time of writing were 8% cashback at Amazon (certain departments only), 8% cashback at GAP, 5% cashback at FedEx, 10% cashback at SkinStore and 6% cashback at Walgreens. There are also other store offers at the time of writing like $15 cashback for signing up to Amazon Prime.
How do you get paid with TopCashback?
Withdrawing your cash back is easy and you can do it in multiple ways, such as to your bank account, PayPal account or as a gift card, which can include a bonus of up to 5%. Some of the available giftcards are American Express Reward Card, Virtual Visa Prepaid Card, Walmart, Target and Disney as well as many others.
TopCashback Pros
Since you are just clicking through to stores for online shopping, TopCashback is very easy to use, and means you don’t have to upload receipts or jump through other hoops to earn cashback.
TopCashback Cons
There is no browser extension for TopCashback at this stage like with Ibotta, Honey, Drop and Rakuten. Instead you need to remember to log in to the TopCashback site to earn on your online shopping.
MyPoints
How MyPoints works
MyPoints is a cashback app that offers lots of different ways to earn points. As with cashback apps like Ibotta and Rakuten, you can earn points for uploading shopping receipts and shopping through deals found in the MyPoints app.
You can also earn points in the MyPoints app by answering surveys, playing games, watching videos, visiting other recommended sites, printing and using coupons, completing web searches with Yahoo, and referring friends.
Which stores can you use MyPoints with?
MyPoints allows you to earn points at thousands of stores, including all of the usual big name stores like Target, Walmart, Walgreens, Macy’s and online retailers like Ebay and Amazon. Some of the MyPoints Amazon deals are great, so make sure you check them out before making any Amazon purchases.
How much cashback do you get with MyPoints?
MyPoints works on a points system rather than a cashback percentage. At the time of writing, you could earn 8 points per dollar at Amazon, 2 points per dollar at Walmart, and bonuses of between 100 and 5000 points for signing up to things like Amazon Prime and Walmart +. You need 700 points to cash out from MyPoints and that will get you a $5 gift card.
How do you get paid with MyPoints?
